Chaos at Howe Community Park Results in Four Victims Wounded in Arden-Arcade Sacramento

Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are investigating a gunfire incident that unfolded Saturday evening at Howe Park in Sacramento just as law enforcement were dissolving an unsanctioned gathering of multiple hundreds of people.

What Led to the Shooting

Sacramento County law enforcement first arrived at Howe Community Park at about 6:30 in the evening after receiving reports of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Following that, a second caller reported mentioning an alleged brawl happening inside the park.

A sheriff's airship conducted an aerial sweep but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. Despite this, it became clear that an enormous crowd had gathered without authorization in an unauthorized manner.

The Shooting Itself

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies moved to clear the area by surrounding the park and making announcements ordering attendees to disperse at once. Around 15 minutes were allotted for the gathering to break up.

While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition were discharged. The sudden gunfire caused mass panic. Law enforcement wasted no time in searching for victims.

Four Gunshot Victims

In total, four individuals were identified as having gunshot wounds. The victims — consisting of one woman and three men ranging in age through their in their 20s — were brought to area medical facilities. Emergency physicians reported that two were treated for serious injuries, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one person's injuries were considered minor. Thankfully, all four victims survived and were stable.

Metro Fire Sacramento arrived on scene and helped care for those who had been shot on location.

What Howe Community Park shooting 2026 Investigators Found

The primary shooting scene was determined to have occurred adjacent to the Cottage Way side of the park near the Home Depot located at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. CSI personnel found more spent casings scattered along Cottage Way. Bullet damage were observed in the wrought iron fence surrounding the Home Depot. These findings showed that at least one shooter had been sending rounds south from along Cottage Way toward the Home Depot. That Home Depot location was temporarily locked down for a period of time. CSI units alongside detectives stayed at the location through the early morning hours.

Suspect Vehicle Located

Information obtained over police scanner frequencies showed that a suspect Kia had been detained in an area within Solano County. Four occupants were stopped and detained. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were en route to collect those detained to bring the suspects back for formal questioning. Footage analyzed by investigators confirmed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
